Dec 29, 2011Copper thief caught!
Shortly after midnight the morning of December 29th, 2011 officer Allaire was making normal patrols by boat on Lake Travis when he ran across a suspicious boat in the dark near one of our client's marinas. Upon inspection he found a wm surrounded by several sections of thick electrical wire that had been cut, sectioned and stolen from that marina. The subject was detained and his boat pulled back to the marina where the wire was removed from. Sheriff's deputies took custody of the male subject and impounded the boat. The subject is facing felony theft charges and already has 2 previous felony theft convictions on his record. Thieves steal this thick type of wiring for it's copper. In this particular instance the client suffered $20,000 in damages. Other marinas have suffered as much as $90,000 in damages due to wire theft in the past.
